How to Choose a Car Screen Guard in India
For a car touchscreen in India, shops sell four broad kinds of protection: model-specific guards from a seller's own website, model-specific guards on marketplaces such as Amazon.in, universal guards for 9-inch aftermarket Android stereos, and genuine accessories from the car maker's own catalogue. Before comparing anything else, one check matters most: does the listing name your car's model, its years and your screen size? This guide compares them using what sellers' and car makers' own pages showed on 4 October 2026, plus three published guides to phone screen protectors (two from Wirecutter, one from CNET), and it links every page it quotes.
One part of the question is covered separately: what car makers sell as genuine screen guards, and what owner manuals say about cleaning touchscreens, is in genuine vs aftermarket car screen guards in India.
Material: tempered glass or film?
The two main materials are tempered glass and plastic film such as PET or TPU, and a listing does not always state one material clearly. Wirecutter, writing about phone screen protectors, puts the market shift this way (Wirecutter's Spigen GlasTR EZ Fit review):
Now most screen protectors are thin sheets of glass instead of plastic film.
That sentence is about phone protectors, not car infotainment screens. A CNET guide dated 17 October 2012, also about phones, says thin multi-pack protectors "will wear over time" and get replaced from the pack, while thicker single protectors "can even be removed and re-applied, should bubbles form" (CNET's 2012 screen-protector guide).
Listings sometimes state the material inconsistently on the same page. Spartan Shield's and OHAYO's own websites showed no product details on 4 October 2026, so their facts here come from their Amazon.in listings. Three examples, quoted as they appeared, with no judgement on the brands:
- OHAYO's Amazon.in listing for a Hyundai Creta 2-piece guard carries the title wording "Not Tempered, Non-Glass Military Strength 9H Hardness Film" and a bullet saying "Crafted from a high-strength non-glass material with 9H hardness," while the specification table on the same page says "Tempered Glass" (OHAYO's Amazon.in listing).
- Spartan Shield's Amazon.in listing for a Hyundai Creta 10.25-inch dual-screen pack ends its title with the phrase "Not Tempered Glass," lists "Polyethylene Terephthalate" in its specification table, and carries a bullet saying "99.9% light transmitting glass film" (Spartan Shield's Amazon.in listing).
- PROTECTERR's Amazon.in listing for a 9-inch Android stereo guard calls itself a "9H Unbreakable Tempered Glass Screen Protector for 9 Inch Android Car Stereo" in its title and says "High-quality tempered glass" in a bullet (its wording), while the specification table on the same page says "Polyethylene Terephthalate" (PROTECTERR's Amazon.in listing).
Gear Guard, on its own site, calls its material "9H nano glass" (its wording) on its Hyundai Creta Facelift page (Gear Guard's Creta Facelift product page). The practical point for a buyer: read the material wording in the title and in the specification table. Where the two disagree, the listing itself gives more than one material answer, and no reader can pick a single material from that page.
What "9H" means, and what it does not mean
"9H" is a pencil-hardness rating, and it does not mean that nothing can scratch the guard. Wirecutter tested this for phone screen protectors and wrote (Wirecutter's iPhone screen-protector review):
even the hardest pencil in this test (9H) is softer than tempered glass, and many of the things that might scratch a screen or a screen protector are harder than a 9H pencil. The Mohs kit includes materials that can scratch tempered glass.
Again, the source is a review of iPhone screen protectors, not car screens. In the listings recorded for this guide, 9H appears across material wordings: Spartan Shield's specification table pairs "9H" as the item hardness with "Polyethylene Terephthalate," OHAYO's title says "9H Hardness Film," and Gear Guard calls its material "9H nano glass" (all as shown on 4 October 2026). So the 9H label alone does not tell you whether the sheet is glass or film.
Fit: model-specific guards and universal 9-inch guards
A model-specific guard is cut for the car and screen named in the listing, while the universal guards recorded here fit 9-inch aftermarket Android stereos, not factory-fitted car screens. Model-specific listings name the model, the years and the screen size in the title or the options:
- Gear Guard's page is titled "Hyundai Creta Facelift Touch Screen Guard [2024-2026]" and offers an 8-inch + 10.25-inch option labelled for the EX, EX(O), S and S(O) trims (Gear Guard's Creta Facelift product page).
- Spartan Shield's Amazon.in listing says "This is specially custom-designed for Creta 2024 touch screen infotainment system," and its title reads "HYUNDAI CRETA 2026 [ 2024 - Running]" and names the SX, SX(O), SX Tech and SX Premium trims (Spartan Shield's Amazon.in listing).
- OHAYO's Amazon.in listing says it includes "2 precision-cut protectors for the MID display and infotainment screen" for the Hyundai Creta 2024, 2025 and 2026 models (OHAYO's Amazon.in listing).
Before you choose, check which screen your variant has: our car screen size chart for India lists touchscreen sizes for 326 variant groups across 76 models, and each row links its source.
One page can carry more than one fit answer. On Gear Guard's Creta page, one FAQ answer says "Yes, this compatible with Hyundai Creta (2024-2025)," and the answer about other models says "This only fits the following models: Hyundai Alcazar (2024-2026)" (Gear Guard's Creta Facelift product page). Both answers are on the same page, so this guide quotes both and treats neither as the page's single fit claim.
The universal listings describe a 9-inch stereo fit. An Amazon.in search for the exact query "cut to size car navigation screen protector" returned the JEOM and Wisely listings among its results (Amazon.in results page for that query):
- JEOM's listing says it is "purpose-built for 9-inch universal Android car stereo and touchscreen displays" (JEOM's Amazon.in listing).
- Wisely's listing says "Wisely Screen Guard Protector Compatible with Android 9inch ANDROID Stereo System" (Wisely's Amazon.in listing).
- PROTECTERR's listing, fetched at its own product URL rather than from that search, lists compatible devices as "9-inch Android Car Stereo (Universal)" and says "Custom-designed for Universal Android 9inch (aftermarket)" (PROTECTERR's Amazon.in listing).
These pages describe a 9-inch fit; the pages fetched do not tell the buyer to cut a sheet to size. Their compatibility wording names stereo sizes, not car models, so this type suits an aftermarket 9-inch Android stereo rather than a factory touchscreen such as the 10.25-inch Creta screens named in the listings above.
Finish: clear or matte
Most listings recorded here state a single clear or glossy finish; at least one seller offers matte as a paid option. Gear Guard's Creta page has a finish selector labelled "Glossy" and "Matte," and its 8-inch + 10.25-inch option shows ₹649 in Glossy and ₹749 in Matte (Gear Guard's Creta Facelift product page). The other listings recorded state one finish each in their specification tables: Spartan Shield "Glossy," OHAYO "Glossy," Wisely "Glossy," PROTECTERR "Glossy" and JEOM "Clear" (all Amazon.in). Armour Guards sells a clear finish only.
What is in the box
Box contents differ from listing to listing, so check each seller's list before ordering. Here is what each recorded listing said was included, quoted as listed on 4 October 2026:
- Gear Guard (own site): "WET WIPES DRY WIPES SQUEEZE SCREEN GUARD" is its What's Inside the Box list, and its comparison table says the install kit is "Wipes + squeegee" (Gear Guard's Creta Facelift product page).
- Spartan Shield (Amazon.in): "Bubble Remover Squeezee, Micro Fiber Cloth, Screen protector, Wet Wipe" (Spartan Shield's Amazon.in listing).
- OHAYO (Amazon.in): "Screen protector,Microfiber cloth.Wet wipes,Dust stickers" (OHAYO's Amazon.in listing).
- JEOM (Amazon.in): "Cleaning Cloth, Dust Removal Sticker, Screen Protector, Squeeze" (JEOM's Amazon.in listing).
- Wisely (Amazon.in): "Dry Wipe, Screen protector, Wet Wipe" (Wisely's Amazon.in listing).
- PROTECTERR (Amazon.in): "Alignment Tool, Dry Wipe, Micro Fiber Cloth, Screen protector, Wet Wipe" (PROTECTERR's Amazon.in listing).
- Armour Guards (own site): each guard comes with an alcohol prep wipe and a dust-removal sticker in the box (Armour Guards' Creta Facelift 10.25-inch listing).
Returns and warranty
Return windows and warranty terms differ between sellers, and sometimes between pages of the same store, so read the seller's own policy text before ordering. Gear Guard's own pages state different return and warranty windows. All three pages were live on 4 October 2026, each is quoted below, and this guide draws no conclusion about which window applies:
- The Creta product page's FAQ says: "Yes, we offer a hassle-free replacement policy for manufacturing defects or damage during delivery. If you face any issue, simply contact our support team within 24–48 hours of receiving the product with an unboxing video or clear images" (Gear Guard's Creta Facelift product page).
- The refund policy page says: "We have a 7-day return policy, which means you have 7 days after receiving your item to request a return." The same page adds: "Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns on sale items or gift cards" (Gear Guard's refund policy page).
- The shipping policy page says: "Gear Guard will happily accept returns due to change of mind as long as a request to return is received by us within 7 days of receipt of item and are returned to us in original packaging, unused and in resellable condition." The same page adds: "Once returns are received and accepted, refunds will be processed to store credit for a future purchase." On warranty it says: "Gear Guard will happily honor any valid warranty claims, provided a claim is submitted within 90 days of receipt of items" (Gear Guard's shipping policy page).
For the marketplace listings, the warranty field reads as follows (Amazon.in); PROTECTERR's listing showed no warranty field:
- Spartan Shield: "Warranty Description: Nill" (the listing's own wording) (Spartan Shield's Amazon.in listing).
- OHAYO: "1 year against manufacturing defects" (OHAYO's Amazon.in listing).
- JEOM: "Against Manufacturing Defects" (JEOM's Amazon.in listing).
- Wisely: "Against Manufacturing Defects" (Wisely's Amazon.in listing).
Armour Guards' shipping and return policy page allows returns of unused items in original, unopened packaging within 7 days of delivery; the customer pays the return shipping. The same page asks that broken, transit-damaged or wrong items be reported within 3 days of delivery, and Armour Guards then replaces or refunds and covers the return shipping.
Prices as shown on 4 October 2026
On 4 October 2026, the day every page here was fetched, the recorded listings displayed selling prices from ₹185 (JEOM, a universal 9-inch guard) to ₹749 (Gear Guard's Matte option, a model-specific guard) on their India storefronts. The figures per listing:
- Gear Guard (own site, Creta Facelift page): ₹649 for the 8-inch + 10.25-inch Glossy option and ₹749 for the same option in Matte (Gear Guard's Creta Facelift product page).
- Spartan Shield (Amazon.in, 2-pack for the Creta): ₹399, with M.R.P. shown as ₹1,499 (Spartan Shield's Amazon.in listing).
- OHAYO (Amazon.in, 2-piece MID + infotainment pack for the Creta): ₹272, with M.R.P. shown as ₹1,999 (OHAYO's Amazon.in listing).
- JEOM (Amazon.in, 9-inch universal): ₹185, with M.R.P. shown as ₹999 (JEOM's Amazon.in listing).
- Wisely (Amazon.in, 9-inch Android stereo): ₹249, with M.R.P. shown as ₹999 (Wisely's Amazon.in listing).
- PROTECTERR (Amazon.in, 9-inch Android stereo): ₹289, with M.R.P. shown as ₹1,299 (PROTECTERR's Amazon.in listing).
- Armour Guards (own site, Creta 10.25-inch guard for 2020–present cars): ₹490 (Armour Guards' Creta 10.25-inch listing).
Sellers change prices, so treat these figures as a snapshot of that day only.
The four options side by side
The table below sums up the four option types with the figures seen on 4 October 2026. For the genuine-accessory row: Tata Motors' accessories catalogue lists screen-guard lines such as "Screen Guard Music System 10 inch" and "Screen Guard Music System 12.2 inch," and asks buyers to "Please consult authorized TATA Motors dealer for latest details relating to price/features/specifications" (Tata Motors' accessories catalogue). Mahindra's BE 6 genuine-accessories brochure lists item 15 as "Screen guard Protective film" (Mahindra's BE 6 accessories brochure).
| Option | What it is | Material, in the listing's own words | Price seen 4 Oct 2026 | How fit is stated |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Model-specific guard from the seller's own site | A guard cut for a named car model and screen | Gear Guard: "9H nano glass". Armour Guards: tempered glass, 9H hardness | Gear Guard ₹649 (Glossy) or ₹749 (Matte); Armour Guards ₹490 (Creta 10.25-inch, 2020–present) | Model and years in the title; screen size in the title or the size options |
| Model-specific guard on Amazon.in | A guard for a named car model, sold through a marketplace listing | The OHAYO and Spartan Shield listings each give more than one material wording (see the material section) | OHAYO ₹272 (2-piece pack); Spartan Shield ₹399 (2-pack) | Model and years in the title |
| Universal 9-inch Android stereo guard | A guard sized for 9-inch aftermarket Android stereos, not factory screens | JEOM: "Silicone Adhesive, Tempered Glass". Wisely: "Flexible". PROTECTERR: tempered glass in the title, "Polyethylene Terephthalate" in the specification table | ₹185 to ₹289 | Names a 9-inch stereo, not a car model |
| Dealer's genuine accessory | A screen guard sold by the car maker | Tata lists screen guards without stating the material; Mahindra's BE 6 brochure lists a "Screen guard Protective film" | Ask your dealer (Tata's catalogue shows no price) | Listed by model in the maker's own catalogue |
All prices in the table are the figures displayed on India storefronts on 4 October 2026, and each named seller's facts come from its own page or listing linked in the sections above.
Before you order: a checklist
Before paying, check these points on the listing and on the seller's policy page:
- Check that the listing names your car's model, its years, your screen size and, where it lists them, your trim or variant, because a listing that does not name your car does not say it fits your screen.
- Read the material wording in the title and in the specification table, and if the two disagree, treat the page as giving more than one material answer.
- Do not decide on the 9H label alone, since the glass-wording and film-wording listings recorded here all carry it.
- Check the finish options and which finish the displayed price belongs to, the way Gear Guard prices its Glossy and Matte options differently.
- Check what is in the box, such as wipes, a squeegee and dust-removal stickers, against what you will need to fit the guard.
- Read the seller's own policy pages for the return window and for how quickly you must report a damaged or defective guard. On the pages recorded here, Gear Guard's product-page FAQ asks for defect or transit-damage reports within 24–48 hours of delivery and its policy pages give 7 days for returns; Armour Guards gives 7 days for unopened returns and 3 days to report damaged or wrong items.
- Check the warranty: on the pages recorded here it ranged from "Nill" to "1 year against manufacturing defects", and Gear Guard asks for claims within 90 days of receipt.
- Check your owner manual's guidance on cleaning the screen before fitting anything; the companion guide covers what car makers sell and what the manuals say.
